ASL Education & School Partnerships

Read. Sign. Connect. Shelly’s Adventures® is a children’s literacy and American Sign Language (ASL) education company helping schools, districts, and community organizations bring storytelling, communication, and inclusive learning together.

Founded by children’s author Kentrell Martin and inspired by his Deaf brother, Shelly’s Adventures has brought interactive literacy and ASL experiences to more than 1,300 schools across 20+ U.S. states and internationally.

Educational Programs Available Now

  • Interactive school experiences: Age-appropriate author visits and hands-on ASL sessions that encourage reading, participation, Deaf awareness, and communication.
  • Enrichment and community learning: Engaging literacy and introductory sign language sessions for libraries, early learning centers, after-school programs, recreation departments, and families.
  • Books and learning resources: Original Shelly’s Adventures stories and educational materials that introduce ASL through characters, everyday vocabulary, and interactive reading.
  • Sponsored literacy programs: Multi-school experiences through the Shelly’s Adventures National Literacy Initiative. When fully sponsor-funded, participating schools and students are not charged for the sponsored experience.

Expanding Our Educational Solutions

We are developing additional solutions for schools and districts and welcome conversations about pilot programs and implementation partnerships:

  • Structured ASL curriculum and courses: Age-appropriate instructional sequences, lesson resources, and options for school and district use.
  • Educator professional learning: Introductory ASL, Deaf awareness, inclusive communication practices, and classroom strategies to support stronger connections with Deaf and hearing students.
  • ASL clubs and enrichment: Guidance and program materials for schools interested in launching or strengthening extracurricular sign language learning.
  • Districtwide implementation: Collaborative planning for multi-school programs, instructor support, educator training, and sustainable learning models.
  • Digital learning: Exploring new tools that make ASL practice and educational storytelling accessible at school and at home.

These expanded curriculum, professional development, and digital offerings are in development; availability and scope will be confirmed with each partner. Programs complement, rather than replace, qualified interpreters and specialized services for Deaf students.
