The Shelly’s Adventures School Experience
An interactive literacy, American Sign Language, and Deaf-awareness program for Pre-K through fifth grade.
Children’s author and educator Kentrell Martin brings the Shelly’s Adventures books to life through storytelling, movement, student participation, and hands-on ASL learning. Students do more than listen—they read, sign, communicate, and connect.

Each Shelly’s Adventures story introduces 10 ASL signs, helping students continue practicing through books and classroom resources.
Age-Appropriate Formats
- Pre-K–1: Approximately 25–30 minutes with movement, letters, numbers, colors, and foundational vocabulary.
- Grades 2–5: Approximately 35–45 minutes with storytelling, broader vocabulary, silent signing, student participation, and questions.
Programs can be adapted for classrooms, grade-level groups, assemblies, family events, and after-school settings.
Ways to Bring the Program to Your Community
- Single-school experience: One or more presentations scheduled for your school.
- Multi-school residency: Several schools coordinated during one regional visit or district week.
- District pilot: A structured cohort that can include family engagement, classroom resources, or future expanded programming.
- Sponsor-funded initiative: A business or community partner underwrites the program so participating schools and students are not charged.
